Sign-on is the act of logging into a computer system or beginning a work shift.
In broadcasting, sign-on is when a station begins its daily transmission.
As an adjective, it describes incentives offered at the start of employment: a sign-on bonus, a sign-on package.
The noun and verb forms are usually hyphenated; the verb phrase sign on is two words: I'll sign on to the server.
