sideslipping

Lateral drift maneuver

Sideslipping is moving sideways, especially in aviation where a pilot intentionally flies with the aircraft angled to increase drag and lose altitude without gaining speed—useful for steep descents on approach.

Skiers and snowboarders sideslip down slopes by keeping their edges slightly released.

More broadly, anything sliding or drifting laterally can be described as sideslipping: The car sideslipped on the icy road.
