stem turn

Slope direction change

A stem turn is a skiing technique for changing direction by angling one ski outward in a V-shape while keeping weight on the other, then bringing the skis parallel to complete the turn.

It's an intermediate maneuver between the basic snowplow and the more advanced parallel turn: She practiced stem turns before moving to steeper slopes.
