feinting

Deceptive body movement

Feinting is making a deceptive movement to draw an opponent's reaction—a fake punch in boxing, a shoulder dip in basketball, a thrust in fencing.

The goal is to create an opening by getting someone to commit to defending against an attack that won't come: He kept feinting left before cutting right.
