shotput

Heavy ball hurl

Shot put is a track and field event in which competitors throw a heavy metal ball as far as possible from a small circle.

The ball itself, called a shot, typically weighs 16 pounds for men and about 9 pounds for women in competition.

Athletes use a pushing motion rather than an overhand throw, keeping the shot close to the neck before explosively extending the arm.

She set a new school record in the shot put.
