medalist
Award-winning competitor
A medalist is someone who has won a medal, especially in athletic competition: an Olympic gold medalist, a three-time medalist in the backstroke.
The word appears almost exclusively in sports contexts, where it often combines with gold, silver, or bronze to specify the level of achievement.
