sewist

Works with thread

A sewist is someone who sews, particularly as a hobby or craft.

The word emerged as a gender-neutral alternative to seamstress and a more dignified alternative to sewer (which looks like the drainage pipe).

It's favored in quilting and crafting communities: I've been a sewist for twenty years.

The sewists gathered for their monthly meeting.
