scrivening

Clerical writing work

Scrivening is the work of a scrivener—copying documents, drafting legal papers, or doing clerical writing.

The term is archaic, belonging to an era before typewriters and photocopiers when written documents had to be produced by hand.

It appears occasionally in historical or literary contexts: He earned his living by scrivening for lawyers.
