scooch

Move a smidge

Scooch means to move over a short distance, usually while seated: Scooch over so I can sit down.

It can also mean to slide or shimmy into a tight space: She scooched through the gap in the fence.

The word is informal and suggests small, shuffling movements rather than standing up and relocating.

Also spelled scootch.
