saphenous vein

Long leg vessel

The saphenous veins are the two major superficial veins running the length of the leg.

The great saphenous vein, the longest in the body, travels from the foot up the inner leg to the groin.

The small saphenous vein runs along the back of the calf.

These veins are commonly harvested for coronary bypass surgery and are frequent sites of varicose veins.
