sand flat

Exposed coastal sediment

A sand flat is a level expanse of sand exposed at low tide or found in arid regions—essentially a flat area composed primarily of sand.

Coastal sand flats appear along shorelines and estuaries, alternately covered and uncovered by tidal waters: We walked across the sand flat searching for clams.

The term also describes similar formations in deserts and lakebeds.
