rockeries

Boulder-strewn garden beds

Rockeries is the plural of rockery, a garden feature built from rocks arranged to create pockets of soil for alpine plants, succulents, and other species suited to rocky terrain.

Rockeries became popular in Victorian England and remain common in ornamental landscaping: The estate's rockeries were planted with sedums and saxifrages.
