respiring
Inhaling and exhaling
Respiring is breathing—the act of inhaling and exhaling air.
The word is formal or technical, appearing mainly in scientific contexts: The patient was respiring normally after surgery.
In biology, respiring extends to cellular respiration, the metabolic process by which organisms convert nutrients to energy.
