rented

Paid to borrow

Rented describes something obtained through a rental arrangement—temporary use in exchange for payment.

A rented car, rented apartment, or rented tuxedo belongs to someone else; you're paying for access, not ownership.

The word can carry connotations of impermanence or lesser investment: It's just a rented place, so I haven't bothered decorating.
