immigration wave
Mass arrival movement
An immigration wave is a period of elevated immigration to a country or region, typically marked by a surge of arrivals from particular origins or driven by specific historical circumstances: the great immigration wave of the late 19th century, a new wave of immigration from Southeast Asia.
The metaphor suggests arrivals coming in swells rather than a steady trickle.
