redubbing

Recording new dialogue

Redubbing is the process of recording new audio—usually dialogue—to replace an existing soundtrack.

Films are redubbed when released in foreign markets, with voice actors performing translated dialogue.

A film may also be redubbed to update dated references, replace an actor's voice, or fix audio problems: The studio redubbed the entire film after the lead actor's scandal.
