rail track
Locomotive's metal road
Rail track is the pair of parallel metal rails on which trains run, along with the supporting ties and ballast.
The term appears more in British than American English, where railroad track or simply track is more common: Workers were repairing the rail track outside the station.
Rail track also refers to the infrastructure system generally: The country needs to invest in its aging rail track.
