radix

System's counting base

Radix is a mathematical term for the base of a number system.

In decimal (base 10), the radix is ten; in binary (base 2), the radix is two.

The radix point is what we call the decimal point in base-ten notation, generalized to any base.

Outside mathematics, radix occasionally appears in its Latin sense of root or source.
