pull hitter
Opposite-field avoider
A pull hitter in baseball is a batter who tends to hit the ball to the same side of the field as their batting stance—a right-handed hitter pulling to left field, a left-hander pulling to right.
The term comes from the pulling motion of the swing.
Defenses often shift against known pull hitters: They put the shift on because he's such a pull hitter.
