A homer is a home run in baseball—a hit that allows the batter to round all bases and score: He hit a homer in the ninth inning.
As a verb, to homer is to hit one: She homered twice in yesterday's game.
A homer can also be a homing pigeon.
In informal use, a homer is someone who shows obvious bias toward their home team, especially a sports broadcaster: The announcer is such a homer. (Capitalized Homer is the ancient Greek poet.)
