open stance
Hips face target
An open stance is a body position where the feet, hips, or shoulders are angled away from the direct line of action.
In baseball and golf, it means the front foot is set back from the target line: He hit from an open stance to pull the ball.
In boxing and martial arts, an open stance occurs when two fighters have opposite lead feet, leaving their midsections more exposed to each other.
The term extends to any physical positioning that creates greater visibility or vulnerability on one side.
