pull-offs

Roadside stopping areas

Pull-offs are widened shoulders or small paved areas alongside roads where drivers can safely stop—to check directions, rest, or let faster traffic pass.

In music, particularly guitar playing, a pull-off is a technique where a finger releases a fretted string with a slight plucking motion to sound a lower note without picking again: He executed a series of hammer-ons and pull-offs.
