wigwams

Domed bark shelters

Wigwams are domed dwellings traditionally built by certain Native American peoples, particularly in the northeastern United States.

The frame consists of bent wooden poles covered with bark, hides, or woven mats.

Though often confused with tipis, wigwams are distinct—rounded rather than conical, and meant for more permanent settlement: The village had several wigwams arranged in a clearing.
