gospel book

Text of salvation

A gospel book is a volume containing the four Gospels of the New Testament—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

In medieval Christianity, gospel books were often lavishly decorated with gold leaf, jeweled covers, and elaborate illustrations, reflecting the sacred status of the texts.

They served both liturgical and devotional purposes: The priest read from the gospel book during Mass.
