press-fit

Tight tolerance insertion

Press-fit describes a method of joining parts by forcing one into another slightly smaller opening, creating a tight mechanical bond without adhesives, welds, or fasteners.

The interference between components holds them together through friction: press-fit bearings, press-fit pins.

As a verb, to press-fit is to join parts this way: The bushing was press-fit into the housing.
