Uncompressed camera data
A raw image is a digital photograph that preserves all data captured by the camera's sensor, without the compression or processing applied to standard formats like JPEG.
Raw files offer maximum flexibility for editing—adjusting exposure, color balance, and detail—but require specialized software to view or convert.
Professional and serious amateur photographers prefer raw because it retains information that processed formats discard: I always shoot raw when the lighting is tricky.
