police line

Yellow tape boundary

A police line is a barrier—physical or notional—that law enforcement establishes to control access to an area, typically a crime scene, accident site, or protest zone.

The familiar yellow tape reading "POLICE LINE DO NOT CROSS" marks such boundaries.

Reporters gathered behind the police line.

To cross a police line without authorization is usually a criminal offense.
