Dancer's reinforced slipper
A pointe shoe is a specialized ballet slipper with a reinforced toe box that allows dancers to support their full body weight on the tips of their toes.
The stiffened construction creates a flat platform at the toe, enabling the characteristic "en pointe" position: She broke in her new pointe shoes before the performance.
Dancers typically begin pointe work only after years of training.
