pitsaw

Two-man blade

A pitsaw is a large two-person saw used for cutting logs into boards.

One sawyer stands above the log on a raised platform while another works below in a pit, each pulling the blade in alternating strokes.

The term survives mainly in historical contexts, as power sawmills replaced this laborious method: The old pitsaw left rough marks on the timber.
