rip cut
Along the grain
A rip cut is a woodworking cut made parallel to the grain of the wood, as opposed to a crosscut, which goes across the grain.
Rip cuts typically use coarser-toothed saw blades designed to remove material efficiently along the wood fibers: I need to make a rip cut to narrow this board.
