photoetch

Chemical image printing

Photoetch is a process that uses light-sensitive materials and chemical etching to create precise patterns on metal or other surfaces.

The technique exposes a coated surface to light through a mask, then etches away the unprotected areas: The circuit boards were photoetched to create the wiring patterns.

Common in electronics manufacturing, jewelry making, and model-building for producing fine detail work.
