loquat

Yellow stone fruit

A loquat is a small yellowish-orange fruit with sweet, tangy flesh and large seeds, native to China but now grown in warm climates worldwide.

The evergreen tree that bears it has broad, dark leaves and fragrant white flowers.

The fruit is eaten fresh, made into jam, or used in desserts: The loquat tree in our backyard produces more fruit than we can eat.
