percher

Bird at rest

A percher is something that perches—typically a bird that rests on branches, wires, or other elevated spots rather than wading or swimming.

The term applies to the vast order of perching birds (passerines), which includes sparrows, finches, and crows.

Less commonly, percher describes anyone or anything that settles in a high or precarious position: The cat was a window percher.
