whitetail

Flagging forest ruminant

A whitetail is a white-tailed deer, the most common deer species in North America.

The name comes from the distinctive white underside of the tail, which flashes conspicuously when the deer bounds away: We spotted a whitetail at the edge of the field.

The term appears frequently in hunting contexts.
