patriline

Father-to-son lineage

A patriline is a line of descent traced through fathers—from a person to their father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and so on.

The term appears in anthropology and genealogy when distinguishing paternal from maternal ancestry: His patriline connects him to Scottish nobility.
