Y-chromosome

Father-to-son inheritance

The Y-chromosome is one of two sex chromosomes in mammals, carried by males alongside one X-chromosome.

Females carry two X-chromosomes instead.

The Y-chromosome determines male biological sex and passes exclusively from father to son, making it useful for tracing paternal lineage: DNA analysis of the Y-chromosome revealed his ancestry.
