participle

Verb-derived modifier

A participle is a verb form that functions as an adjective or combines with auxiliary verbs to form tenses.

English has two types: present participles ending in -ing the running water, she is running and past participles typically ending in -ed or -en the broken window, he has broken it.

Dangling participles occur when the implied subject doesn't match: Walking home, the moon rose incorrectly suggests the moon was walking.
