participation award
Prize for attending
A participation award is a prize given simply for taking part in an activity, regardless of performance or achievement.
The term often carries a dismissive or mocking tone, implying that recognition without merit is hollow or coddling: Every kid on the team got a participation award.
Critics use it to characterize a culture that supposedly shields people from failure or competition.
