participation medal
Award for attending
A participation medal is an award given simply for taking part in an activity, regardless of achievement or performance.
The term often carries dismissive or critical connotations, suggesting that recognizing mere participation devalues genuine accomplishment: Everyone gets a participation medal these days.
Critics associate participation medals with overprotective parenting and the coddling of children.
