main verb
Clause's central action
A main verb is the verb that carries the primary meaning in a clause, as opposed to auxiliary verbs like *have*, *be*, or *will* that modify it.
In She has been running, *running* is the main verb while *has* and *been* are auxiliaries.
Every clause needs a main verb to express what's actually happening.
