overground

Surface rail system

Overground is the opposite of underground—above the surface rather than below it.

In British usage, the Overground is a rail network running at street level, distinct from the underground Tube system.

Figuratively, overground can mean operating openly rather than in secret: The movement went overground after the regime fell.
