open reading frame
Translatable genetic sequence
An open reading frame is a stretch of DNA or RNA that could potentially encode a protein—it begins with a start codon and continues without interruption until a stop codon.
Geneticists scan genomes for open reading frames to identify possible genes: The software detected several open reading frames in the sequence.
Often abbreviated ORF.
