odd-even

Switching between parities

Odd-even describes a system that alternates between odd and even numbers, typically for rationing or access.

During fuel shortages, odd-even rationing allows drivers to buy gas only on days matching their license plate's last digit: Odd plates fill up on odd-numbered days.

The scheme distributes demand and reduces lines by splitting eligible customers.
