compound microscopes
Multi-lens magnifiers
Compound microscopes are microscopes that use multiple lenses to magnify specimens—typically an objective lens near the specimen and an eyepiece lens for viewing.
This two-stage magnification allows much greater power than simple single-lens magnifiers.
The standard laboratory microscope used in biology classes is a compound microscope: Students examined cell slides under compound microscopes.
