eye lens
Microscope's upper glass
The eye lens is the transparent structure inside the eye that focuses light onto the retina.
It sits behind the iris and changes shape to adjust focus between near and distant objects—a process called accommodation.
In compound eyes of insects and crustaceans, each individual facet contains its own tiny lens.
The term also refers to the lens in an optical instrument closest to the viewer's eye, as in a microscope or telescope.
