Nether means lower or situated below.
The nether regions or nether parts are the lower parts of the body—often a euphemism for genitals.
In geography or mythology, nether describes what lies beneath: the netherworld is the underworld, realm of the dead.
The word is literary and somewhat archaic, surviving mainly in fixed phrases.
