moving images
Cinema's basic element
Moving images are visual representations that create the illusion of motion—film, video, animation, and digital media as distinct from still photography or static pictures.
The term appears in technical, legal, and archival contexts where a neutral category is needed: The library's moving images collection includes newsreels and home movies.
It encompasses everything from cinema to GIFs.
