mouldboard

Plow's curved blade

The mouldboard is the curved metal plate on a plough that turns over the soil as it's cut.

The shape lifts and flips the earth to one side, burying weeds and crop residue while exposing fresh soil.

Also spelled moldboard in American English.

The mouldboard plough revolutionized medieval agriculture.
