coulter

Vertical soil slicer

A coulter is a vertical blade or sharp disc attached to a plow, positioned ahead of the plowshare to cut through soil, roots, and plant residue.

This cutting action creates a clean slice in the earth, making it easier for the plowshare behind it to turn the soil.

Coulters come in various designs—flat, rippled, or notched—depending on soil conditions and the type of material being cut through.
