subsoiler
Compaction-breaking farm tool
A subsoiler is a farm implement that breaks up compacted soil below the normal plow depth without turning it over.
The long, narrow shanks penetrate deep into the ground to improve drainage and root penetration: We ran the subsoiler through the field before planting.
Also called a chisel plow when used for similar deep tillage.
